MIST Mongol Barota – Exploration Rover Team
MIST Mongol Barota is the flagship Mars rover team from the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in Bangladesh, composed of talented students from the Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) departments. Founded in 2013, the team’s mission is to design, build, and operate advanced Martian and lunar exploration rovers that push the boundaries of space exploration. Over the years the MIST Mongol Barota.

University Rover Challenge (URC) - 2025 and 2021
In 2025, MIST's Mongol Barota team participated in the prestigious University Rover Challenge (URC) held in Utah, USA. The team placed 14th among 38 top global teams, demonstrating exceptional performance in the fields of robotics and space exploration. Twelve students from different academic levels and a faculty advisor from the Mechanical Engineering department were part of the rover development team.
Previously in 2021, the MIST team Mongol Barota achieved remarkable success by winning the world championship at the University Rover Challenge (URC). The team earned a perfect score of 100 in the Equipment Servicing Mission, underscoring their technical prowess in the development of a rover that excelled in a variety of challenging tasks. This victory firmly established MIST’s position at the forefront of robotics engineering on the global stage.
Anatolian Rover Challenge (ARC) - 2024, 2023 and 2022
MIST Mongol Barota has established a strong legacy in the Anatolian Rover Challenge (ARC) at Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Türkiye. In ARC 2024, held from 17–21 July, the team secured a remarkable 2nd place (Runner-up) finish among 21 teams, demonstrating exceptional performance across challenging mission scenarios that simulated Martian, lunar, and Earth environments. The rover development team included sixteen students from various academic levels along with a faculty advisor from the Mechanical Engineering department.
Previously in ARC 2023, Mongol Barota achieved a 5th place finish at METU, competing against a strong international field. In the team’s first appearance in ARC 2022 at İstanbul Technical University, Turkey, the team earned 3rd place in the competition. As part of this achievement, they were awarded a sponsored training opportunity at Space Camp Turkey, which further strengthened their technical capabilities.
