Dr. Nur M Shuman’s research is in the field of Geotechnical and Geomatics Engineering, with particular focus on complex Finite Element Modeling and Geospatial Data Analysis. Prior to joining MIST, Dr. Nur M Shuman held a Ph.D. researcher position at both Jackson State University and Purdue University. He received a fellowship from the Department of Transportation, Mississippi for the Development of advanced landslide investigation protocol using geophysical methods for Mississippi. He worked as a member of a prestigious project “Climate Resilient Landslide Repair on Expansive Soil Using Vetiver Grass” which is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).  Dr. Nur M Shuman traveled to Mali, Africa in a professional capacity and contributed to various successful engineering projects in Kidal Super Camp in Mali under United Nations (UN). Dr. Nur M Shuman also worked as a remote pilot at JSU and developed a digital 3D map of the JSU campus with UAS (Drone). His Ph.D. dissertation won an award for Outstanding Dissertation from Jackson State University — a commendable achievement for any student of the prestigious institution. Dr. Nur M Shuman also holds an M.Sc. degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Jackson State University of Mississippi, USA, and a B.Sc. degree from BUET, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

As engineer officer, participated in various successful engineering project in Kidal Super Camp in Mali under United nations

Important Activities:

  • Detail planning of Kidal Super Camp considering ground requirement which had been sent to UN HQ for incorporating in final planning.
  • Solving of a pipe connection problem of around 1500m from an external borehole of discharge 10m3/hr including internal pipe networking.
  • Design and Construction of a road using laterite and locally available material for carrying a load of 15 ton.
  • Design and execution of Chain link fence and security system in Kidal Airport
  • Digital survey of Kidal Super camp with total station.

Staff officer of work in 19 Engineering Construction Battalion. 

Important Activities: 

  • Prepare and correction of Development Project Proposal (DPP)on road projects and revise on occasion.
  • Coordinate with civil authority and local worker for timely implementation of a project.

Project Officer of a Road Construction Project

As project officer I had been assigned with three road projects connecting all the three hilly districts (Khagrachori, Rangamati and Bandorban) in total 121 km road network.

Duties included:

  • Provide subject matter expertise on slope protection, land compaction and drainage facility of the project. 
  • Supervise and control quality of the work and overall responsibility of implementation within time and budget.
